Couple of quick concepts, about 2 of hours each. Heavy armoured henchmen, one light support and the other a leader type.

Alien Gardener

Alien Gardener wips and encounter suit concept

Another CHOW challenge, to create an alien gardener. My take was that the world outside of massive domed cities was extremely hostile, dominated by carnivorous plants. Gardeners can undertake a yearly challenge to bring a new non-hostile plant back to the Emperor for his exquisite gardens. The most delicate, beautiful or sweet of fragrance brings the finder riches and a position of influence beside the Emperor.

To make a start.

Just published in BAR 557 2012: Roman Nantwich: A Salt-Making Settlement, the wood artifact illustrations were a labour of love from a few years ago while working at the University of Manchester Archaeological Unit.  Areas of the site were fantastically preserved, particularly two wood lined tanks set in clay. I was lucky enough to be part of the excavation team in 2002 which uncovered the wooden and leather objects from the tanks. Memories of having claw hand from troweling through clay... :)
